Twenty Eight is proud to present... Ellie & the Rubester, by artist Ruth Watt, who specilises in paper-cutting!

Originally from Preston, Lancashire, I came to Edinburgh over 20 years ago for a holiday and sort of forgot to go back – sorry mum! I have always made things – partly because I love it but also because I’m quite mean with my money and if I can make you a present instead of buying you one I will – (again, sorry mum…) People kindly described me in the past as having a butterfly mind which actually means I find it impossible to focus on the task in hand and will merrily veer off on tangents in the blink of an eye if not tied firmly down to my craft table. However, 2 years ago I finally found my true love – papercutting and am now a one craft woman, no longer wistfully flirting with any new fancy techniques that catch my eye. From now on it’s just me, a piece of paper and a scarily sharp scalpel.

Ellie and the Rubester started life just for a Christmas fair in 2013 and was so popular I thought it might be a good idea to keep going! I am completely self taught in the lovely art of papercutting and have slowly developed my signature style and gained lots of wonderful loyal customers who come back again and again. We have a good giggle on facebook together and I love creating special, personalised cuts for them – some deeply moving, some completely bonkers, there’s nothing I won’t attempt to portray with just a surgical precision scalpel and piece of blank paper! I make commissions for weddings, new babies, anniversaries, family trees, birthdays and much more. I love old lyrics and quotes and have a series of ‘Mighty Girl’ cuts inspired by my fabulous daughters – Ellie and Ruby…

Ellie & the Rubester is at Twenty Eight until 31stJuly 2015.
