I am a textile designer/maker working from my Ayrshire studio in Scotland. I trained in Printed Textiles at Derby University and worked as a designer in the the furnishing fabric market over a number of years. Having taken a career break, I returned to my first love of printing and designing fabric. I have a collection of home decorative accessories, ranging from cushions, table runners, decorative wall art as well a smaller items.

Inspired by the countryside, I use both natural and abstract elements

and primarily a palette of black and white to create my fabric designs, reflecting my interest in nature, bold graphic woodcut/lino prints, giving a nod to mid 20th century design.

Fabrics are printed by hand in small quantities after which it is embellished with a variety of techniques such as free machine embroidery, hand stitching and adding touches of colour by hand.

Alongside her core range of screen printed home wares, the collection is regularly added to producing a striking and very distinctive body of work.

It began back in 2008 with a couple of cushion designs and one or two other decorative items and the collection has grown and evolved from there.

Astrid regularly participates in craft fairs throughout Scotland and England, details of which can be found in the website and on-line shop www.astridweigel.com . Astrid is exhibiting at Twenty Eight until 23rd May 2015.
