Design Feature - MANIA

Twenty Eight is proud to present..... MANIA! A jewellery range by Italian designer, Chiara Cupini.

"Busy hands are happy hands!"

The name Mania is a wordplay to express passion for hand making.

It comes from the Italian words MANIA (fanatical addiction) and MANI (hands).

Mania was created almost ten years ago by the common passion I share with my mum and sister, and although we now now live in different countries, our passion still remains the same. Recently my partner also joined us, being very fond of the steam-punk and bezel collection.

I've made jewellery for over ten years now, experimenting different techniques and materials.

I started off with shells and sea glass, then I moved to upcycled fabrics, and now to recycled plastic and papers (like in the bezel collection, where prints are sourced from all sort of art, craft and photography magazines as well as comics), and more recently old clock's mechanisms.

We like change and experimentation, so almost never make two pieces the same, and our collections are in a continuous evolution!

We have to keep our maniac hands busy!

Chiara Cupini is the lady behin MANIA:

"I'm an Italian graphic designer and I moved to Edinburgh five and an half years ago.

I run a small business focused design agency called Guizzo. Hand made jewellery has been my hobby for quite a few years, working with different materials and techniques.

I'm now trying to take it a bit further, selling at market few times a month and finding places where my work can be sold.

Each piece is hand-made and I rarely make two that look the same, this is because this is my hobby and my main interest is still to have fun and enjoy the making process." MANIA are exhibiting at Twenty Eight until 8th May 2015. Find out more about MANIA here:
